Giorgio Moroder: Battlestar Galactica Full Album + Bonus (1978)
Giorgio Moroder enjoyed an extremely successful fall of 1978 with Donna Summer s first No. 1 LP Live And More doublealbum including her charttopping version of Mac Arthur Park, the Three Degrees triumphant New Dimensions LP, and his own soundtrack album for the film Midnight Express which earned him an Academy Awards for Best Original Score. However his Battlestar Galactica album, released in December 78, was a resounding flop. The album had a sidelong medley of the song from the scifi series Battlestar Galactica, seemingly in the hope of repeating Meco s success with his Star Wars album. I believe this was probably a hired job for Casablanca s Neil Bogart, rather than Moroder s own idea. Far more interesting was Moroder s composition on side 2, Evolution. Although it did not receive much recognition at the time, it has since been heralded for its stunning, ominious soundscape.
