Children of Bodom Silent Night, Bodom Night (cover by Vincent Moretto)
Last week we heard the sad news of Alexi Laiho passing away. He was one of the heroes of my teenage years and somehow the best teacher Ive ever had, just by learning the amazing songs he wrote. To me it wasnt just about technical stuff on the guitar but more like a constant masterclass showing off his way of writing music. Kick ass themes, bridges, verses and melodies as well. Heres the cover version I was (trying to be) playing with my band, back in the days, long time ago, jadis, lol. Some lead parts are obviously rearranged now that Im using an 8s guitar in standard tuning (specially the rapid open string phases). I think I was 14 when I first heard of Children of Bodom. Black Widow (from the album Hatebreeder) was the 1st song I got to listen and at this very moment, a whole universe opened in front of me and so the quest of becoming a better musician, songwriter commenced. COB has been crucial in my musical (and even social) life.
