When a Bf 109 spared a stricken B 17

Christmas 1943, a badly shot up B17 struggled to stay in the air, it was the first mission for the 21yearold pilot, half his crew lay wounded. Then the dark shadow of the feared Bf109 pulled along side the bomber. Worse, at its controls was a German fighter ace looking for his next target.
