Chapter 21: Rice and Snakes
Back to Polly s perspective. We are introduced to the slave Cato, who works down by the Rice Fields. Derbyshire Farms makes most of its money from Rice and the reader is shown the horrors of working in the fields. Amari discovers that if she falls out of favor with the Derbys, then it would be very likely that she would end up in the horrible rice fields.
