INCREDIBLE video. I know quite a few people see this as a father, daughter situation. After watching it again I personally think Maddie might represent some sort of destructive addiction, and Shia is, first, trying to escape it. Then he tries to make peace with it, live with it and finally thinks he has overcome it. But after fighting numerous times, he realizes he has lost everything and is left alone in this cage. He s completely alone and feels as though the one thing that made him feel whole, left him. When he succumbs to it again, he finds some sort of comfort or rescue from it. Finally, when this comfort he has found threatens to leave him alone again (and make him face the truth of what he has become), he tries to desperately hang onto it. Even though it means he ll be stuck in the cage, at least he won t be alone.
