SU 37 Terminator 27 Years of Unparalleled Aviation Technology

On April 2, 2023, the Su37 Terminator, a heavyweight air superiority fighter created by Russia as part of an ambitious effort to significantly upgrade the Su27 Flanker fourthgeneration airframe for nextgeneration combat, will have completed 27 years since its maiden flight. The Su27 was introduced into service by the Soviet Union in 1985, and the Su37 prototype was designed to act as a technology demonstration for a number of new features that would speed the creation of the Su27M, an improved version of various Russian weaponry systems. Due to the postSoviet decline of the Russian defense industry, the Su27M would eventually reach service, albeit several years later than anticipated. The aircraft would join the Russian Air Force in 2014 and be renamed the Su35.
