Gravitys Law is a short film by Matt McDermott based on a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Commissioned by Channel 4 Random Acts. To fall, patiently to trust our heaviness Inspired by Rainer Maria Rilkes poem Gravitys Law, McDermott taps into themes of meditation and nature in a deliberate response to the overload of information in modern society. He was drawn to The Barbican Centre and estate because of its otherworldly quality and achieves a sense of calm with his long freefalling shots against the brutalist architecture How surely gravitys law, strong as an ocean current, takes hold of even the strongest thing and pulls it toward the heart of the world.
