The Children of the Dance, Les enfants de la danse (1970) dir. Geneviève Dournon Simha Arom
In the Central African Republic, the Béndélé, a new cohort of young Gbaya initiates, leave the secret camp where they received an initiatory education centered on learning and mastering dance and drumming. The day after their return to the village, the new initiates, dressed, receive a throwing knife from the hands of the master of ceremonies and begin to dance and sing to the sound of the drums. Mimicking animal or human attitudes, they then engage in kolongo dance, combining pantomime and dance. The choice of figures (the cricket busy in the tall grass, the man who puts on his and the moment of execution are determined by the dance leader.
