CHAPEA Mission 1 Crew Ingress
Four volunteer participants enter the groundbased, simulated Mars habitat at NASAs Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, on June 25, 2023, to begin a 378day mission. The mission is the first of three planned oneyear Mars surface simulations, called CHAPEA (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog). Researchers will simulate the challenges of a human mission to Mars, including resource limitations, equipment failures, communication delays, and other environmental stressors. Learn more at
