To be a citizen is a powerful thing. It provides us with an unprecedented sense of belonging because it comes with responsibilities, rights, privileges and entitlements. Yet, these days a citizen is a rare term in the political lexicon. Over the past 30 years, its been devalued and replaced with the word taxpayer. Daphne Bramham is an awardwinning journalist and author based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
