Barge Rally (1961)
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. L, S of a boat on a canal; we tilt up to show numerous boats moored to the banks of the canal. M, Ss of a motor launch and a houseboat on the canal as commentator says the British Waterways Rally is here. C, U of an elderly woman talking to someone off camera; tilt down to show a badge she is wearing reading Steward. She puts some old photographs into a draw in a tiny desk on the deck of a barge; a man comes out to hang some flags on the barge. On another barge a man takes a baby out of a carry cot and hands the baby s bottle to his wife. A woman feeds a donkey on another houseboat called The Lady Hatherton; she then takes it inside with her child while her husband scrapes some paint from the side of the boat. Various shots of boats in the Rally; a man fastens flags to the outside of his boat; plants and flowers and brightlypainted jugs and ornaments decorate the front of other barges.
