Is Kenyas Green Energy Plan Worth Its Drawbacks , Giving Nature A Voice
Geothermal energy, a clean lowcarbon energy source, currently provides half of Kenyas energy needs. Its importance will keep growing as Kenyas tries to connect 90 of its citizens to the electric power grid. Unfortunately, most geothermal fields are in National Parks and Reserves and often stress critically endangered bird species, or end up displacing local people. Elsewhere in Kenya, droughts are causing forests to shrink. Helen and Kenya Mutiso want to teach local Kenyans how to grow forests in their own backyard and make money from medicines, skincare products and dyes in part of a nationwide effort to cover 10 per centof Kenyas land with trees.
