Collecting a baby flying fox from a vet: this is Eiffel
Eiffel is an orphan female GreyHeaded FlyingFox whose mother died on powerlines and fell to the ground with her little one on her. Mum looks like she s been gnawed on by rats but somehow Eiffel hasn t been chewed and is relatively unscathed. She was quite dehydrated at rescue and once she had some fluid replacement, she developed a swollen wrist and elbow, and once her adrenaline had worn off she was also a lot less feisty and a lot unhappier. She has a fracture in one fingertip which is partly healed (at least a week s healing) which I just slightly supported with a stiff dressing so it didn t rebreak, and she had a few punctures (not rat bites but tiny shallow punctures); I don t know what caused the punctures. She also had swollen slightly grazed toes on one foot. By day 2 she really wasn t a happy girl and I though I d probably lose her.
