From the Vault: The SIG 551 A1
The original SIG 550, 551 series is widely acclaimed by a multitude of firearm aficionados as of the best semiautomatic rifles ever produced. The original design dates back to the late 1970s and can trace its roots to the Swiss Army. The SIG 556A1 is not an exact copy but does feature ambidextrous safety levers, paddle magazine release and sidefolding stock. It utilizes an operating system resembling the Kalashnikovs gaspiston design, with a rotating bolt and carrier. In this segment of From the Vault, Paul Levy goes over additional features of the SIG 551A1.
