Tour of the Amerigo Vespucci Offers a Glimpse into Italian Maritime Heritage at Port of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Santa Monica Closeup took a tour of the majestic Italian Navy tall ship Amerigo Vespucci at the Port of Los Angeles. The vessel, a historic sailing ship and training vessel for the Italian Navy, has been docked at Berth 46 in the Outer Harbor since July 3 and will remain until July 8. Visitors to the ship enjoyed free public tours, immersing themselves in the rich maritime history and intricate craftsmanship of the Amerigo Vespucci. Adjacent to the ship, the Villaggio Italia offered a taste of Italian culture with its Piazza Italia square featuring daily performances, exhibitions, and culinary delights. Among the highlights of the sixday event were the thrilling air shows by Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force s National Aerobatic Team, and evening screenings of acclaimed Italian films curated by the Venice Biennales Mostra Internazionale del Cinema.
