Eschscholzia californica California Poppy Papaveraceae family Known for its calming effects on the central nervous system but also has an affinity for muscles, liver, gallbladder, heart and digestive system. Primarily used for insomnia, sedation, aches, nervousness, and diseases of the liver and gallbladder. Active constituents alkaloids and protopine give it benzodiazepinelike activity. Use with caution in conjunction with other sedative herbs and medications. Do not use when pregnant or nursing.
