Independence supporters win French Polynesian elections for first time ever

For the first time in French Polynesia s history, a proindependence party is now in control of the government following a landslide election victory. However, any referendum needs the approval of Paris, and even the most ardent of secessionists acknowledge it could take 10 to 15 years to achieve their goal.
