The Recent Megaeruption in Alaska; The Emmons Lake Caldera
Imagine 150 Mount Saint Helens volcanoes right next to each other explosively erupting like witnessed in 1980. Although difficult to imagine, this portrays the massive scale of an explosive eruption which occurred at the Emmons Lake caldera approximately 130, 000 years ago. Located in Alaska, this eruption formed an 11 mile long and 7 mile wide depression in the ground which is more than 2, 000 feet deep. This video discusses that eruption, and the complex that is the Emmons Lake Caldera.
