The Caucasian Chalk Circle (German: Der kaukasische Kreidekreis) is a play by the German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht, finished in the first edition in 1945; one of the most consistent incarnations of the theory of epic theater. The action takes place in Georgia, during the Great Patriotic War immediately after the expulsion of German troops from the Caucasus. Collective farmers gathered at the ruined village; A representative of the state commission for the restoration of the economy, who came from the capital, is trying to resolve the dispute between the two collective farms over land: it used to be the pastures of the Ashkheti sheepbreeding collective farm, now they want to transfer it to another collective farm for fruit growing and viticulture.
