Tango in Berlin 1930: Leo Monosson Paul Godwin Tanz Orch. Du lieber Geiger
Du lieber Geiger (spiel einen Tango für Mich) Dear Violinist, Play Tango For Me Tango (Bronisław Kaper), Grammophon 1930 (German) NOTE: As many as three artists with Polish roots come together in this recording. The first is Bronisław Kaper, a Polish composer of 1920s Warsaw cabaret hits, who around 1930, thanks to his contacts with the Hungarian composer and singer Walter Jurmann, who was popular in Germany, joined the Berlin music market and composed many hit songs, including the famous Ninon for the famous Polish tenor Jan Kiepura (the song became an international evergreen). This opened the door for him to Hollywood, where he emigrated after Hitler came to power. There he became the composer of more worldwide hits, including On Greek Dolphin Street, launched by Miles Davis, and He also composed soundtracks for films including Lili (1954) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) for which he won an Oscar.
