Alicia de Larrocha plays Danza del terror from El amor brujo. Originally composed for a ballet in 191415, El amor brujo tells the story of a Gypsy woman, Candela. As a girl, she is promised to be married to a man (then a boy), but her love is directed to another: Carmelo. Years later, Candela s husband is killed (by Lucía s husband) but continues to haunt his wife. The entire village knows about the haunting but still brands Candela as crazy because every night she dances with her husband s ghost (Danza del terror). After talking to other women in the village, she realises that her husband had been unfaithful to her, with Lucía. Candela and Carmelo are advised that a ritual dance is needed to cast off the ghost. Candela asks Lucía to come that night, with the excuse of hooking her up with Carmelo. As she turns up, Candela s dance with her husband s ghost begins, but at the last moment Candela moves away and Lucía is taken away by her dead lover. Dawn breaks and Candela and Carmelo are finally free to
