USA: Momma bear and her two cubs give lake goers a big surprise
, Bears are clever animals and in certain areas like Alaskas Lake Clark National Park, theyve learned to take advantage of human presence. Mothers with cubs are particularly aware of the danger male bears represent for their offspring. Almost oneinthree cubs are killed by males during the mating season, which extends from early May to mid July. While nursing, the female is not ready to mate and so the male will do anything necessary to reproduce and pass on their DNA, including kill another bears cubs. For this reason, female bears are more prone this time of year to get close to humans, knowing that the big males generally try to stay away from people. Its not unusual in In Lake Clark National Park to see mother bears nursing very close to people. Theyre particularly vulnerable when lying on their backs, and the presence of people reassures them.
