Concerning the melody, Paul explains in his book Many Years From Now: The original inspiration was from a wellknown piece by Bach, which I never knew the title of, which George and I had learned to play at an early age. Part of its structure is a particular harmonic thing between the melody and the bass line which intrigued Geoff Emetrick, the audio engineer: Paul remarked to me that he wanted the track to sound as if he was singing it outdoors.
