Cemetery expansion in Ukraine has led to water contamination
Cemetery expansion in Ukraine has led to water contamination in 16 regions with toxins from decomposing bodies. The environmental group Greenpeace highlights that cemetery sizes have increased 12 times beyond sanitary limits, causing decomposition byproducts to seep into groundwater. Toxins have spread to the Dnieper, Danube, and Southern Bug rivers, potentially threatening the safety of nearby countries, notably Poland and Romania.
