Art (1959)
Camera pans across a painting by F. B. Savage of the Monarch. This is one of a collection of paintings to be found not in an art gallery but at the headquarters of the (General Post Office) in London. Various paintings are shown and one artist is mentioned by name John Minton. The artworks were all commissioned for a series of posters designed to make people place conscious and induce them to address their correspondence correctly. Shots of various paintings including one of a postman. L, S of a glamorous woman sitting at a desk surrounded with artwork, a male colleague talks to her about her work. She is Shirley Thompson a design artist. F. B. Savage, the head of the art department looks at her work which is a design for a wedding congratulations telegram. Various designs for greetings telegrams are shown including a Valentine s Day telegram and a baby greetings telegram. In the case of poster specific artists are commissioned.
