Tommy Dorsey, Marie ( Irving Berlin)

The great American jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, conductor and bandleader Tommy Dorsey (19051956), known as the Sentimental Gentleman of Swing, and his big band, performing in the movie The Fabulous Dorseys (1947), with Sara Allgood (18801950) as Mrs. Dorsey, and singers Janet Blair (19212007) and Stuart Foster (19181968). Marie was written in 1928 by the Russian American composer and lyricist Irving Berlin (18881989). He is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters in history. His music forms a great part of the Great American Songbook.
