The Spoken Word Aldous Huxley Causes of War ( BBC)
Date broadcast: From CD booklet: Although The Causes of War, also part of a series, was broadcast against a background of mushrooming tensions in interwar Europe, it addresses issues that are no less relevant today. Huxley focuses with great insight on the psychological causes of war, the uncomfortable truth that the barbarian and the unconscious sadist are strong within us, the ways in which governmnet promote vanity and hatred, and argues, among other things, for the routine psychoanalysis of politicians and newspaper proprietors in order to weed out the madmen and neurotics, while it was also around this time that he was coming increasingly to realise that his own mental foundations were in urgent need of investigation and renewal.
