Boeing B17G Flying Fortress, SallyB, GBEDF and Douglas DC3 Dakota, C47 Skytrain KP220, GANAF, displaying together at Headcorn Battle of Britain Airshow 2022. B17G Sally B : This is the only remaining airworthy B17 in Britain and Europe. It was one of the last B17s to be constructed by the LockheedVega plant at Burbank, California. Accepted by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) as 4485784 on 19 June 1945 it was too late to see war service, and was flown to Nashville for modifications. Converted for training purposes and redesignated TB17G, it was based at Wright Field (now WrightPatterson AFB), Ohio from November 1945. Continuing in the care of 2750th Air Base Group (ABG), it was selected for research use and in 1949 allocated EB17G status. It was used in a variety of research roles, including the addition of a mancarrying pod on the starboard wingtip. Also fitted at the time was an infrared tracking device in place of the Perspex nose.
