Clark Terry Mumbles, 1965 ( HD restoration)
Clark Terry was a brilliant trumpeter, but his wonderful scatted setpiece Mumbles was probably his most famous song. He scats it in a kind of conversational gibberish which he makes look like a great coherent story, if only we could understand what he s saying. There s many different versions to be found on YouTube, including a duet with Aretha Franklin but this is absolutely my favourite. This is taken from a 1965 Oscar Peterson concert in Helsinki with an amazing lineup: Clark Terry vocals Oscar Peterson piano Ray Brown bass Ed Thigpen drums Video cleaned up and restored to 1080p.
