US must apologize for GITMO abuses, prisoners prolonged suffering UN expert
A UN representative has called on the US to answer for the abuses inflicted on inmates at the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison camp. She says an apology and the longpromised shutdown of the detention facility are necessary. Better known as GITMO and located in Cuba, the facility was established in 2002 as the socalled War on Terror was kicking into high gear. Reports of abuse and torture at the camp raised alarms worldwide and Amnesty International claimed prisoners human rights were disregarded at the site.
