APPLICATION OF RUDIMENTS IN MUSIC Lesson 4
INFORMATION ABOUT THE VIDEO Learning to apply rudiments to the drum set can be tricky. Sometimes we have ideas that sound really clear in our minds but when we try to express them on the kit, we find ourselves not really knowing exactly what it is we are trying to play. In this segment, I give insight on how I have learned to execute Flam Taps and create interesting ways to express them. The Ninja Flam Taps are inverted and grouped into rhythmic groupings of 5s, 7s, and 9s. I then express these groupings all over the drums. Note, this is probably one of the more advanced concepts I use in my drumming. In order to express the Ninja concept, you must first become proficient with regular alternate sticking Flam Taps. You can use the book Stick Control by George Stone to help you develop your basic Flam Tap technique. You can download a copy of my book Exercises In African American Funk here:
