Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, VFX Breakdown, Digital Domain
For Marvel Studios AntMan and the Wasp: Quantumania, Digital Domain Visual Effects Supervisor Dave Hodgins and his team of artists were tasked with transforming the Marvel Comics villain, onto the big screen. To do this, the awardwinning studio utilized its proprietary tool Masquerade 2. 0 combined with a few other industry tools, including Maya, Mari and VRay. For the film, Digital Domain also developed a new blood flow pipeline that leverages machine learning and creates a library of data from scanned data of actor Corey Stoll. Once the team began working on the final version of the library of data was triggered by Digital Domains proprietary Weighted Pose Space Deformation (WPSD) system. The team capped it all off by adding a heartbeat monitor (that changes in the film as needed), a metal battle mask inspired by the characters comic book roots and a handful of futuristic weapons created to fit the specifications of the film.
