Chaplin and Kelly on Skates
Roller skating on film was not invented with Gene Kelly, but he is certainly the most well known and accomplished skater on film. Gene danced and sang on skates in 1955 s It s Always Fair Weather. What people may not know is that Charlie Chaplin did a roller skating scene 40 years previous in The Rink from 1915. As cinema was new in 1915, Chaplin s may not be as polished, but it is nevertheless an example of his own athletic skills.
