Hooking Three Horses Bit to Bit
RH Short short instructional snipets to help you on your horse powered farm Ralph Rice explains his bittobit method of hooking up his threehorses for field work. He explains how and why he gets more control and the horses are more comfortable. Ralph lays all the line out on his barn floor making it VERY easy to understand. He shows what happens when you pull each line for twoup and threeup. He shows us the bit lines that he had made for this method. He always puts his colt in the center position because he has the most control of the horse in that position. He admits that there is more abrasion on the horses mouth with this method but much less than when one uses the jockey pole. He uses this for pulling a forecart, powercart, wagon, and plowing with no tongue and no neck yoke Ralph farms with his draft horses in northern Ohio. He and his Riceland Meadows Farm are featured in many of our videos.
