The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca (1986)
Inspired by a boyhood encounter with the famous writer Federico García Lorca, a young journalist returns to the Spanish Republic after the Civil War with the pretext of researching a book on Spanish journalist encounters the tyranny of the fascist regime as he engages in the mystery of uncovering how Lorca died. The film takes on the darker side of Spain and it s passionate history. The subject of the death obsessed gay poet whose murder is being covered up by the Fascist authorities is given the Hollywood touch to render it palatable for American tastes without overtly smothering the essentially European tale.
