The Great Lauri Volpi Sings Bianca Al Par Di Neve Alpina, from Les 1929
The demands of the tenor role of Raoul in Meyerbeer s Les Huguenots are extreme, and Giacomo Lauri Volpi, greatest of the bel canto tenors, was one of the few who could really claim the role as his own. The sustained legato singing required in this ariaespecially at the extraordinarily slow tempo at which he takes it is an ultimate test of bel canto style and singing technique.
