Into Alaska Searching for a Cabin Portage to Great Glacier. 10Days Family Camping in the Alaskan B. C. Wild The rain won t let up and we re all soaked to the bone. Out map notes say there s a cabin in the area but we can t find it. Our notes are 30 years old so, maybe it s not there anymore we figure. I pull up on a sand bar and I get out of the canoe and walk ahead. My wife Tori think s there s no cabin to be found but I see a faint trail going up the muddy bank into thick northern rainforest vegetation. We follow it and sure enough, we find the small trapper s cabin which is nestled into a stand of giant Sitka Spruce. The cabin had a large woodstove and many hooks for hanging cloths to dry. I cut a bunch of wood and got a nice fire going while Tori cooked up a delicious medal of poutine for dinner and heavy rain continued to pelt the tin roof. When the next morning came, the rain hadn t let up. We cooked up breakfast, cleaned up the cabin and
