Delia Derbyshire Sea
The image is an oil slick I discovered on the Farmington River in April. The spill was small. Based on the amount of oil, it looked like someone changed the oil in the car and dumped the waste. I can only think it was done deliberately. I decided to photograph the slick swirling around in a small eddy while waiting for the environmental people to arrive and do a clean up. My main job was to chase the wild ducks away to keep them from swimming into harm. The sound is a recording from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It s one of a series called Dreams, by Delia Derbyshire and Barry Bermage. Done in 1964, it has lost none of it s impact after 50 years. All of the pieces in the series are worth your time to search out. I ve been told that one of the voices in this piece is Delia Derbyshire but I can t confirm that. I do know she was fascinated by the Titanic so perhaps it true. (c) ESAisESA,
