Discover the Only Surviving, First Generation Recording of Apollo 11
On 20 July, 1969, over 600 million people tuned in to watch what was perhaps the greatest event of the 20th century human beings taking their first steps on the moon. The moment itself not only represented an immense technological achievement but also the unlimited potential of mankind to accomplish anything. Exactly 50 years later, Sothebys will offer the only surviving, firstgeneration recordings of the historic Apollo 11 moon walk. Viewed only three times since June 1976, the three reels of 2inch Quadruplex videotape transport viewers to the big screen monitor at Mission Control, which displayed much clearer images with better contrast than those the more than halfbillionperson television audience witnessed around the world.
