Naval Battle (1962)
Scarborough, Yorkshire. Its a naval battle but don t be disappointed, its just models on a lake. However, these models cost over Â6000. They have been made to scale, and participate in a thrilling spectacle reenacting the battle of the River Plate. This takes place at Peasholm Park at the height of the holiday season, watched by crowds numbering between 5000 8000. There are shots of the replica vessels, Ajax, Achilles, and Exeter. Guns being fired. One of the vessels is the passenger liner, Asturias. We see two men fixing the charges and one gets inside the vessel. Another fixes equipment on to the model moored at the jetty. They prepare for the reconstruction of Battle of River Plate, complete with the Graff Spey, and radio controlled model aircraft RAF bombers dropping explosives on the submarines. There are quick shots of the crowds on the banks, mostly holiday makers, including two men with binoculars. There are lots of shots of the explosions, smoke and the ships. They use up Â60 worth
