Aerogel microstructures by 3 D printing

Empa researchers have succeeded in producing stable, wellshaped microstructures from silica aerogel by using a 3D printer. This opens up numerous new applications, for example in microelectronics, robotics, biotechnology and sensor technology. The printed aerogel structures are stable and extremely light.
