In their first test in a realworld scenario, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are tasked with starting fires for a prescribed burn. The firstever test on public lands took place at the Homestead National Monument in Beatrice, Nebraska. Scientists tasked themselves with getting the drones to the interior of the fire to start further burn zones a feat that could relieve fire personnel from a lifethreatening situation.
