Pimpinella, opus 38, no 6 by P. I. Tchaikovsky, Пимпинелла, опус 38, П. И. Чайковский
Pimpinella is a Florentine song, an arrangement of a song Tchaikovsky had heard in Florence from a streetsinger, Vittorio, by whom he was completely captivated. He dedicated it to his brother Anatoly, who done much to shelter his brother from the effects of his marital separation. In my interpretation of this song, its character is an arrogant young man, who tries to play it cool with Pimpinella, the girl he is interested in. When he realises that his flirtatious tricks do not work, he decides to soften his tone and open his true self to the lady of his heart.
