British Guiana The Country And Its Industries Reel 9 (1924)
Reel 9. c 1924 Minnehaha Creek on the Potaro River the principal gold field of British Guiana. A large dredging plant is set up which extracts silt from the riverbed. We see various processes for extraction of gold. There is much washing of mats which have collected small particles of gold. Water is slowly drained from pans to leave the gold residue. An amalgam of quicksilver and gold is heated. Raw gold is left, a big lump is displayed to the camera. This is heated until pure gold remains. This is poured into a mould. The brick of gold is then knocked out of the mould. Interior of a building, two men in white coats weight the gold. We see the results of a weeks work, a few bars of gold. Eagle Mountain diamond drilling. Two men work a large drill. One of the man takes out the diamond bearing quartz from the end of the drill to show the camera. See other reels.
