In 1991, Japan heard the sounds of the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, a Korean orchestra that visited the island for the first time. Japan s streets were filled with banners and billboards saying Welcome, Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble . From Tokyo to Sendai and Himeji to Kobe, the ensemble delighted audiences with their music, which ranged from traditional Korean pieces to Japanese popular songs.
