A work of art, which is cast, grows from the designers sketchbook. Thereafter a model is made as a basis for the finished design. At all stages the article is improved and polished in every detail to reach perfection. Before the hot crystal is poured into the finished cast, the form has been heated to reduce temperature difference. All casting is done by hand and demands a high level of competence and knowledge about temperatures and melted glass. During blasting the surface is hit by a sand beam, creating a frosty surface. Depending on the size of the grains, the roughness of the surface can vary. Uneven surfaces are grinded smooth through several stages on the grinding wheels. Glass painting is a form of art that has a renaissance at Målerås Glassworks. Skilled painters transform the designers intentions by use of their brushes and make each item of glass unique.
