Once someone establishes that they are a spouse, they are entitled to make a spousal property claim upon separation. There is a general presumption that all property is divided 50, 50. However, this video discusses some exceptions to the usual 50, 50 division rule. Some of the example discussed include property acquired before the beginning of the spousal relationship and treatment of inherited property.
