Toccata Scarlattiana by Victor Kioulaphides performed by the Zwols Mandolin Quartet
Toccata Scarlattiana by Victor Kioulaphides for Quartetto Classico performed by the Zwols Mandolin Quartet. The members of this plectrum quartet are Ferdinand Binnendijk and Pauline Ulderink, resp. 1st and 2nd mandolins, Ruth Rouw, mandoliola (alto mandolin) and Alex Timmerman, mandoloncello. The quartet uses a full Embergher Roman plectrum instrumentarium. The Toccata Scarlattiana was composed in 2005 for two mandolins. It was later expanded with a mandola and mandoloncello part to a Classical Mandolin Quartet by the composer himself. In that combination of four plectrum played instruments it became the final movement of Victor Kioulaphides Quartetto Classico No. 1 titled: Le Clavecin. Victor Kioulaphides was born in Athens, Greece, and moved to New York in 1979 where he studied double bass and composition at The Juilliard School and The Manhattan School of Music.
