Why Are Some Stores Locking Up Ice Cream
Some stores are putting security lids on pints of highend ice cream amid a shoplifting epidemic. A Manhattan drugstore is protecting its ice cream with a heavyduty chain and padlock. At another store, a clerk needs to unlock the freezer if you want to buy ice cream. Ice cream theft can be a real moneymaker for shoplifters. Police say they steal the pints in bulk, store them in coolers and then resell them to momandpop stores for cheap.
