Stories From Tomorrow, Casey reads
Casey Affleck reads Last Words by James, 14 James, thank you for this powerful poem about a difficult loss in your life. You write beautifully. The poem is heartbreaking and hopeful, and it is a reminder that structure, grammar, meter, rhyme scheme, and vivid imagery aren t at all what make a good poem. Those things are devices to help writers achieve what you have managed to with simplicity, authenticity and honesty. You wrote from the heart, and you moved the reader. Your poem brought to mind poems by two greats: Emily Dickenson and Mary Oliver (who both lived in Massachusetts, like you ) They wrote a lot about hope and loss and carrying on. There are lots of examples, but Mary Oliver s poem In Blackwater Woods is one worth checking out. Thank you, JAMES
